Economic Solutions is committed to achieving the Carbon Action Standard.
We have improved our
environmental practices, and are determined to reduce our environmental impact, as well as our costs.
Economic Solutions supports the growth of the local economy within Greater Manchester through the services we supply. With over 55 sites and 1400 staff, we understand that improving sustainability makes sense for our customers, employees and for our business as a whole.
We are committed to reducing our carbon emissions and to becoming more efficient by using energy efficiently, reducing waste and therefore also reducing our costs.
We have implemented various measures to reduce our carbon footprint, and are seeing real benefits as a result. Some of these measures are:
- Encouraging employees to switch off lights and equipment when they are not being used
- Incentive schemes are helping to bring staff on board. For example, staff who suggests carbon reduction ideas which are implemented are rewarded, and we offer advances for the purchase of season tickets to use public transport.
- Utility usage is monitored across the organisation which helps identify areas where reductions can be made.
- Recycling is encouraged
- Bottled drinking water machines replaced with plumbed-in water machines
- Stopped using plastic / non-biodegradable cups
- Energy audits at each of the sites undertaken to identify quick wins to reduce consumption
- Improved showering, changing and storage facilities at sites to encourage cyclists and actively working with landlords to encourage them to do the same.
- Actively striving to reduce printing, photocopying and paper generation and usage.
It's important to maintain what we have got right and build upon it to ensure further improvements.
We will continue to encourage all employees to reduce carbon emissions within the workplace and to look for possible better solutions. This will include greener technology to reduce travel and related costs, monitoring utility usage closely and identifying ways of reducing it further.
We believe a 10% reduction in carbon emissions for 2011 can be achieved by concentrating on reducing travel and utility usage.
