"We were due for Investors in People reassessment at the end of 2007. Our Business Adviser arranged for us to attend an Investors in People course at Business Support Solutions' head office. The trainer was really enthusiastic about it, and it reawakened me to the benefits the standard can deliver and the areas for development within our business.
That course helped me recognise what I needed to do, so that I could come back and hone what we had into the evidence the assessor required. The assessment went very well - the assessor came in at the end of January 2008. We were very pleased with the results of the assessment and were awarded Investors in People for a further three years.
It's helped at all levels to understand that development of staff really is the key. Once you develop your people they really become what the job's all about. Then it's like a circle, you feed back off them, everyone feels more confident and the whole game is lifted. You know that your people know exactly what they are doing.
Investors in People has really brought everyone on. Roles are much clearer: Directors can direct because they trust their managers to manage. Managers can manage because they trust their staff to do the job.
Our Business Adviser knows his stuff. He's also helped us with Director Development, and with training our middle managers in interview techniques and skills, using bespoke in-house courses."
